Matar provides an intimate and absorbing account of the complex political events that would eventually lead to Gaddafi’s downfall. Though his eventual whereabouts would remain uncertain, he was likely held prisoner in the notorious Abu Salim prison in Tripoli, where he may have perished in the 1996 massacre of over 1,200 prisoners. A decade later, while the author was a student in London, his father was kidnapped in the streets of Cairo by forces in the Libyan government. Jaballa Matar had formerly worked for the Libyan delegation to the United States yet later became an influential political dissident who, in reacting against Muammar Gaddafi’s revolutionary regime, was forced to flee with his family from their home in Tripoli to Cairo. Novelist Matar ( Anatomy of a Disappearance, 2011, etc.) returns to his native Libya in 2012 following a three-decade exile.Īt the center of this moving and vividly documented memoir is the author’s quest to find answers to his father’s disappearance in 1990.

Druss is badly wounded but survives, and Shadak reappears to kill Collan. Druss attempts to break onto the ship to rescue her, but is ambushed by Collan's men on the dock. Together they find out that Rowena will be transported to the distant land of Ventria. Druss travels to Mashrapur and meets Shadak's friend Sieben. Shadak succeeds in interrogating Harib Ka before Druss kills him, and learns that Rowena (who Harib Ka has realised has mystic powers) has been taken to the port of Mashrapur. With his dying breath, Druss' father tells him to fetch the family battle-axe (Snaga), which was stolen by his grandfather Bardan. While he is away from the village chopping wood, a party of slavers, led by Harib Ka and the master swordsman Collan, comes to the village and kills or enslaves everyone they find. We have come to a point where the old has to be dropped and the new has to be heralded. If something is repressed, man becomes aggressive, he loses all soft qualities. And because it was repressive, it was bound to become aggressive. Only a tree that has lived wholly will flower. Celebration is the fragrance of being whole. He is half, and because he is half he is always in anguish and tension he cannot celebrate. He has not been allowed to bloom in his totality. A humanoid is one who looks like a human being but is utterly crippled, paralyzed. In the past we were not able to create real human beings, but humanoids. That’s what has been the case in the past. You will become a battle-ground, a civil war. It will go on finding ways and means to overcome the part that you have imposed upon yourself. He can never be healthy and can never be whole, the other half that has been denied will go on taking revenge. Once you divide man in two, you create misery and hell for him. This is just utterly mad it is unbelievable. In three thousand years, five thousand wars have been fought. The whole past of humanity has been sick, unhealthy, insane. The old concept of man was of either/or materialist or spiritualist, moral or immoral, sinner or saint. On 1st January 1979, someone asked Osho what his message to humanity was and here are some excerpts from Osho’s answer to that question : I don't think I know anyone who hasn't heard of someone or knows someone that has been killed by a drunk driver or involved in a drunk driving accident. The novel deals with underage drinking and car accidents, which unfortunately most adolescents can connect with. Now, I HAVE to talk about the message of the story. the moments that are memorable and make life worth living? I thought that was such a cool concept, but at the same time, it broke my heart as Sam thought about her own greatest hits. One of my favorite descriptions is Oliver's idea of greatest hits.you know. Her writing is truly vivid and my review can't possibly do it justice. She uses tons of imagery in fact, many parts of the novel I felt were beautiful and quotable. It was very interesting to watch each day unfold and observe the fact that Sam's small changes in her day dramatically influenced not only her life, but the lives of people around her. As Goodread's summary stated, Sam died and has to relive February 12th over and over again, which by the way, reminded me of the movie Groundhog Day. However, as Samantha evolves and changes, it makes the novel's theme that much more profound. Her group of mean girls, also known as her best friends, were insufferable. She's that girl you grew up with that thinks she is too cool and everyone else is beneath her. Samantha Kingston, the protagonist, is actually someone I couldn't stand. I was so deeply involved in this book that I really couldn’t put it down. Of course this is Aria & Perry’s story, but Roar is just as important here and I am sure that I am not the only one wanting more scenes with this great character. We follow them through the story and they become more and more complex, we discover other sides of them and we can never get enough of their presence. The characters have grown so much, I am amazed by their depth. It was just as beautiful as the first one! The world as dangerous, the characters just as fleshed out, also it felt like there was even more action than in the first one – not to mention that there is no love-triangle to bother me, for this alone it deserves all these stars and even some more. Well I could write another novel about it, to be honest, as there are so many things to speak of – all of them great, be assured. When a digital marketer is found murdered in his backyard-hands bound and face smothered by plastic wrap-Sheriff Bree Taggert and criminal investigator Matt Flynn respond to the call. Description - Lie to Her by Melinda Leigh Lies from the heart lead to a dangerously intimate case for Sheriff Bree Taggert in #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh's novel of revenge and fatal deceptions. I picked up this book because it seemed so charming. I wonder if he was trying to write these stories to illustrate Taoist philosophies, if so, he was more of a genius than I previously thought.Ĭute book, I listened to the audio version and it was well read. What this little book made me want to do is read the Winnie the Pooh books by A. “Stephanie, and thanks Pooh, I would love some.” “I was about to go get some honey, it’s my favorite thing.” Said Pooh “would you like some….uh….what is your name?” But I’m sure it’s more complicated than that.” “You enjoy the day and blow off any important things you really should be doing, and listen to the birds chirp simply because it’s a nice day.” I said “in Taoism procrastination is good, my kind of philosophy. “ I said”something about how you are not very smart, therefore you don’t over think things like Rabbit.” “From what I understand you are an un-carved block.” In fact the whole book was about the author trying to explain it to you, and you would say “oh.” “Taoist” I said, “it’s very hard to explain, I’m no expert. The most recent one is about how you are a western Taoist.” “There have been many books written about you and your friends. “Hello there! Aren’t you Winnie the Pooh? I’m a big fan.” A unique collaboration between the author and archaeologists, historians, and shamans from around the world, this document has the potential to change the future for all.
